How To Maintain Enthusiasm For Running Workouts
Unrealistic goals, falling into “routines”, and not finding ways to make exercising fun can slowly diminish the enthusiasm we have for running.
Deborah Braconnier recently wrote an article for Yahoo about techniques that can be used to maintain enthusiasm for running workouts. These techniques include setting realistic goals, altering routines, and ways to make exercising more fun.
The first step in keeping enthusiasm high or running workouts is to ensure your goals are attainable.
Set Realistic Goals
When it comes to your workout and exercise plan, you must set realistic goals. If you have not been a very active person, do not expect to be running 20 miles a day within the first month. You will become discouraged. This is one of the main reasons that exercise programs fail.
The next step is to change your exercise routine around so your running workout doesn’t become stale.
Take the Routine Out of Your Workout
For some, a regular routine works best when it comes to exercise. However, for others this regular routine becomes boring and working out becomes just another job. If this is the case, consider changing up your routine. If you typically walk or jog on the treadmill, get out around your local neighborhood or park when the weather is good and enjoy some time outside while getting in your workout.
Finally, the third step is to add enjoyment to your running workout.
Find Ways to Have Fun
Exercise does not have to be boring. If you are working out at home, play some music and get your groove on. If you are at a gym, bring your MP3 player with you. If you are someone that likes to read, consider an audio book to listen to while you hit the treadmill. You may find your workout seems to come to an end before you know it.
You also don’t have to exercise alone. Find a friend or family member that has similar exercise goals and workout together.
